Belem Missions Trip

by Teresa Seputis

DAY 1 (Wednesday, Sep 25, 2002)

We had our first meeting starting at 9:00 AM the next morning -- a pastor's meeting with about 750 pastors present. God's presence was very tangible and there was a lot of impartation as well as some physical and inner healing. I got off to a bit of a slow start when the released us to pray for people. I moved down the aisle and prayed for those who were in my path, but the power of God did not appear to be flowing to the intensity I observed in some of the other team members. God was touching the people I prayed for, but not as visibly or dramatically as those who some of the others were praying for.

So I stopped and asked God what was going wrong. He told me to go back to the front and start over. As I approached the front and turned around, God called one person to my attention. So I went to that person and prayed for them. The power of God was electrifying. He met this man in a very tangible way.

Then God told me, "Teresa, don't just move the line but instead only go to the ones I point out to you." When I did what God told me to, there was a great deal of power and anointing. I remember thinking to myself, "Now, that is more like it!" Then God gave me the vision of a chess board and of a night on the board. He told me, "Teresa, in chess each piece has it's function and each is used strategically. Rooks move differently than pawns, which move differently than bishops. You need to trust Me to have a strategy for each piece and to only try to do the things I am doing through you. Allow Me to give you My strategy and you will see results."

The power of God began to really flow and at first it was fun. However, I did not speak any Portuguese and the pastors did not speak English. It got frustrating because I was getting prophetic words for some of them and did not have any means to share them. After praying for about a dozen people, I felt very frustrated because needed an interpreter and did not have one. So, as I walked across the back of the room, I prayed "Lord, please give me an interpreter!" I took about another two steps and a man walked up to me and asked me (in English) if I would like an interpreter. God answered that prayer really fast!

We prayed mostly for impartation and a fresh infilling of God's Spirit. However, one lady grabbed me and asked me to pray for her back.. she had been experiencing great pain in the small of her back for several years. God healed her as we prayed and the pain totally left! My volunteer interpreter was is from a traditional Baptist church and he did not believe that healing still operated today. So he had a very extended discussion with her to verify she was really healed. The lady directly behind us heard the discussion and asked us to pray for her because she had the same condition.... severe almost crippling pain in her lower back. God healed her too. You should had seen the expression on the interpreter's face as he realized that God can and does still heal today. You might say he got excited! Then he let me pray for him for an impartation of anointing and for God to fill and bless him. It was more fun to see how God set him up for experiencing God's power to heal than it was to see the people get healed.

There were 60 people on the team, and they split us into two groups for the evening service. One group went to a church will Bill Johnson spoke. I heard that they had a wonderful time and that a lot of people were saved and healed.

The group I was in went with Randy Clark to a tent meeting. That tent will be the healing tent for the big open-air meeting of Friday to Sunday where 30,000 were expected. There was also a smaller tent that was to be used as the deliverance tent. Worship was going on in the main meeting in the healing tent when we arrived. We did not go immediately into that meeting, but instead went to the deliverance tent for a time of prayer and impartation for the team.

There were maybe 1,000 Brazilian people at the Wednesday night meeting, most of whom were Christians and many of whom would be helping with the large 30,000 crusade that started a few days later. Randy taught a few basics on healing (that Jesus bore our infirmities on the cross, that God is a healing God, etc), Then Randy taught on words of knowledge and first he gave some then he had the team give some. I had about 8 words of knowledge before Randy shared his, but Randy gave 5 of mine, so I only had 3 left to share by the time I got the microphone. There were several words from other team members as well.

About 25 people were instantly healed just by standing up when the word of knowledge was called out. Another 75 were healed when Randy did a short healing prayer over the group. As he continued to pray and minister, another 75 or so were healed. Randy brought a few people on the platform to share their testimonies. For instance, one lady had a lung problem and was constantly coughing up blood. God healed her and she could breath deeply for the first time in years. Those of us who had given words of knowledge were on the platform behind Randy. He called two interpreters up to the platform to help, but he never used them. As Randy was taking testimonies, one of the interpreters pulled me aside and told me he had a terrible tooth ache. I put my hand on his jaw (where he indicated the tooth was) and prayed a short prayer. His eyes got really wide and he said, "You won't believe this, the pain is totally gone!" I told him that he should not be surprised that God healed him at a healing meeting. Then he shared how the tooth had been abscessed and painful for 4 days. He was so happy to be pain free that he stayed with me as my interpreter the entire evening. In fact, he made a point to swing by and say "hi" to me every day, even when he was translating for someone else. He was very excited about what God was doing on this trip.

After a while, Randy released the team members to pray for people for healing. I was mobbed with people wanting prayer, and God powerfully touched most of them.. .there was a lot of shaking and falling and crunching and other manifestations of God's power on people. Because I had an interpreter, I got a report of what happened with each person. Almost everyone was healed to some degree and about 35 were totally healed. One lady had a cyst on her breast that disappeared while we prayed ... she examined herself in the lady's room and came back to report the cyst was gone. There was such a strong anointing to heal that it was fun and exciting to pray. Time flew, so many were healed, God came in such power.

Near the end of the ministry time, one lady had a demonic manifestation. I could not get control of it.. it would not listen to me even though I knew I had authority. After about 5 minutes, I went and got one of the leaders to help me. He had to battle for a while, but he finally got the manifestations to stop and the lady received some prayer after that. Later he explained to me that when you get a strong demon and I was using an interpreter who didn't understand his authority in Christ. In that situation where the interpreter doesn't understand their authority, the demon will not obey. He did not use the interpreter, he simply addressed the demon in English because he knew his authority. The demon resisted for a while, but then it submitted to his authority. It was a good learning experience for me. I did not know it at that time, but this was a lesson strategically set up by God to prepare and equip me for Friday night when a stronger and more violent demon was to manifest.
