Daniel 9:5 We have sinned, ….
This will be a short look at some scriptures dealing with Mercy and Judgment.
Judgment is mercy when:
It leads to people learning righteousness
It brings redemption to God’s people
It produces blessings
It makes the Lord better known and understood
It establishes the Kingdom of God here on earth.
Examples
It leads to people learning righteousness
Isaiah 26:9 With my soul have I desired thee in the night; yea, with my spirit within me will I seek thee early: for when thy judgments are in the earth, the inhabitants of the world will learn righteousness.
It brings redemption to God’s people
Isaiah 1:27 Zion shall be redeemed with judgment, and her converts with righteousness.
It produces blessings
Haggai 2:17-19
17 I smote you with blasting and with mildew and with hail in all the labours of your hands; yet ye turned not to me, saith the LORD.
18 Consider now from this day and upward, from the four and twentieth day of the ninth month, even from the day that the foundation of the LORD'S temple was laid, consider it.
19 Is the seed yet in the barn? yea, as yet the vine, and the fig tree, and the pomegranate, and the olive tree, hath not brought forth: from this day will I bless you.
Psalms 103:6 The LORD executeth righteousness and judgment for all that are oppressed.
It makes the Lord well known and better understood as it the Revelation of Jesus Christ.
Psalms 9:16 The LORD is known by the judgment which he executeth: the wicked is snared in the work of his own hands.
It establishes the Kingdom of God here on earth.
Psalms 89:14 Justice and judgment are the habitation of thy throne: mercy and truth shall go before thy face.
Isaiah 16:5 And in mercy shall the throne be established: and he shall sit upon it in truth in the tabernacle of David, judging, and seeking judgment, and hasting righteousness.
Isaiah 28:15-17
15 Because ye have said, We have made a covenant with death, and with hell are we at agreement; when the overflowing scourge shall pass through, it shall not come unto us: for we have made lies our refuge, and under falsehood have we hid ourselves:
16 Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD, Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried stone, a precious corner stone, a sure foundation: he that believeth shall not make haste.
17 Judgment also will I lay to the line, and righteousness to the plummet: and the hail shall sweep away the refuge of lies, and the waters shall overflow the hiding place.
Psalms 133:3 As the dew of Hermon, and as the dew that descended upon the mountains of Zion: for there the LORD commanded the blessing, even life for evermore.
Righteous Judgment
Judgment is Mercy when it is Righteous Judgment.
John 7:24 Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment.
Revelation 16:7 And I heard another out of the altar say, Even so, Lord God Almighty, true and righteous are thy judgments.
