It’s ok to read the easy stuff

by Joel Ramshaw (2025)

It’s normal to find some of the Bible books tedious, especially for a new Christian. It is common to get bogged down in the sections of scripture describing temple measurements, sacrificial offering procedure, or prophecy of judgments against ancient nations, some of which no longer exist in the literal sense.

Some give up in discouragement and let their Bible collect dust, withering away spiritually.

Some power through, enjoying the Bible’s difficult parts.

Reading some Bible is infinitely better than giving up and reading none.

If you are avoiding the Bible due to losing focus in parts that seem boring, stick with reading the narrative books:

Also, make sure to read plenty of the devotional books and most importantly the four gospels. These are excellent ones to read and reread:

There is nothing to feel guilty of if you spent 90% of your time in the previously mentioned easy to read books. For much of human history there was no Bible, and only the priests had copies of important books and Prophecies.

Do try to make a longer term goal of reading through the harder books but spend most of your daily devotions in the easy ones.

Read one chapter a day of a difficult Bible book to finish off your devotion after reading the easier books.

This way you will not be overwhelmed.

Reading the Bible is part of our relationship with God, not just to increase knowledge.
