My Dream of Martyrdom

This dream came to me sometime shortly after the shootings at Virginia Tech.

The Virginia Tech massacre was a school shooting consisting of two separate attacks approximately two hours apart on April 16, 2007, that took place on the campus of Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech) in Blacksburg, Virginia, United States. The perpetrator, Seung-Hui Cho, killed 32 people and wounded many others before committing suicide. The massacre was the deadliest shooting incident by a single gunman in United States history, on or off a school campus.

What would you do if you were caught in a similar circumstance?

What does the bible say about this sort of situation? What can the committed Christian expect as he takes up his cross and follows Jesus? In our article, The Stumbling Block [http://www.etpv.org/bills_page/tstumbb.html] we wrote:

We have cited about 40 passages to answer this question, what does the bible say? Over and over and over and over we read about suffering, persecution and martyrdom. This is not a trivial issue here, it’s a major bible theme.

Here are a sample of the scriptures we cited.

Philippians 3:10  That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death;

1 Peter 4:13  But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ's sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy.

The Dream

In the dream, I found my self in some sort of institutional setting. Perhaps it was a school or church, perhaps in a public building. I was with a large group of people. The situation there was that all the people were being lined up and then shot in the chest, one by one with an automatic pistol. I do not recall any details about the shooters or even why this was happening.

My first reaction was one of shock, realizing that I was shortly to experience a violent death and there was no escape.

My second reaction was to accept the situation and make a silent prayer. “Lord, here I come.”

The instant I prayed this prayer I felt an immense feeling of peace come over me. There was no fear. Then the dream ended.

Philippians 4:7  And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
